Lydia Koch, conocida por todos como Lydia Lunch, es una neoyorquina cantante, actriz, poetisa, fotógrafa, guionista de cine, escritora y todo un ícono del Spoken Word, que ha estado en la escena musical desde fines de los 70's hasta ahora. Ha fundado multiples bandas tales como Teenage Jesus and The Jerks, 8 Eyed Spy, Beirut Slump, Harry Crews, The Immaculate Consumptive y su actual Big Sexy Noise. Ha colaborado con varios artistas como James Chance y Pat Place (The Contortions), Nick Cave y Rowland S. Howard (The Birthday Party), J. G. Thirlwell (Clint Ruin, Foetus, Frank Want), Kim Gordon y Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), Lucy Hamilton (Mars), Marc Almond (Soft Cell), Sort Sol, Die Haut, No Trend, The Anubian Lights, Glyn Styler, Michael Gira, Omar Rodriguez Lopez (The Mars Volta), por nombrar solo algunos.

Lydia Lunch funda Teenage Jesus & The Jerks en 1976 cuando recién tenia 16 años, junto al saxofonista James Chance, quien al poco tiempo dejó el proyecto para dar vida a The Contortions.

Teenage Jesus fue una de las bandas fundamentales dentro de la No Wave. Destacaron rápidamente por sus guitarras desenfrenadas, su sonido disparatado y los particulares gritos de Lydia. Grabaron unos cuantos EP y cuatro temas para No New York, el recopilatorio con el que Brian Eno retrataría el movimiento No Wave.

Lydia Lunch siempre estuvo a la cabeza del movimiento llamado No Wave con su banda Teenage Jesus and The Jerks que en el fondo era un desprecio por todas aquellas bandas punk de los 70's que al pasar a los 80's se hicieron New Wave, aunque este movimiento muere casi en el instante en que Teenage Jesus se deshace.

Lunch tiene un estilo musical muy variado con muchas influencias del Jazz, pasando por el Dark, Punk, Noise, a veces Grunge, Cabaret, un poco de Soul y hasta Electrónica.
